LAKE MAGADI FROM NAIROBI
On your arrival to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met by our company representatives for meet and greet services. We then depart Nairobi driving towards the Ngong Hills just before we descend over the escarpment. We stop briefly for photos and views of the Great Rift Valley then proceed towards Magadi through rugged and arid country side.
At around mid-morning that is 1000 Hours we will arrive at the Olorgesaillie Prehistoric site, famous for Early Man tools found in situ. It is the only place in the world with the largest number of hand axes and representing some of the first camping places of Early Man. Enjoy a guided tour of the site and a visit to the adjacent mini museum which gives more details of the site.
The site show evidence of human activity consistently between 1.2 million years to 400000 years ago. This is evidence that human species had a tropical origin and a higher primate group was confined to this part of the world.
In 1942 Dr. and Mrs. Leakey, the researches started investigations on the site where they found important evidence that concerns the habits and activities of early pre-historic peoples of the Acheleus or Hand Axe culture. Olorgesaillie has excellently preserved biological and cultural evidence about the evolution of Man.
